Through the academic study of the arrangements by The Raymond Scott Quintet, Jaques Brel, Piero Ciampi, Astor Piazolla and many others, The Marionette Quintette has taken their appreciation for lost and almost forgotten vintage works, and brought them back to life with their unique ideas and original compositions. For an audience, this is not just another band for cafe viewing, the quintette is an entire engagement, which one can feel within their soul, as they carefully dictate harmonies and timbres, and package them into sentimental and engraving arrangements for the listeners heart rather than ears.
“They infuse their sound with non-traditional instruments, with the practiced and precise ear of true sonic savants” - Rich Cane (I.E. Weekly)
"If you weren't being blown away or didn't find yourself cradled in a corner somewhere in the fetal position, you weren't listening closely enough." - Gabriel San Roman (O.C. Weekly)
“...believe it or not, there are still real artistes out there venturing in the world of music just because it’s something they’re passionate about.” - Al Borde Magazine
"...these guys don’t stick to the tired blue print. The Marionettes are just as innovative as those early pioneers"- Phil Fuller (I.E. Weekly)”
Led by Daniel McCormick with additional compositions by his brother Ivan McCormick, the quintette have taken the musical concepts learned, through the extensive study of autur pieces, and applied them directly, in their own arrangements, often notating out the entire score for the quintette without any previous practice or recital of the melodies. This direct imitation of great arrangers, enlists the help of educated musicians and friends that Daniel and Ivan have met throughout their travels with the acclaimed “Mad Marionettes.” The brothers are still pursuing the full Mad Marionette band, both recently returning from a successful tour back east, and currently working on an E.P. with producer John Avila that will feature fully orchestrated arrangements written in congruence with renowned composer Ali Helwein. In the mean time, they continue to keep their musical clocks ticking, marionette strings performing, and staff paper flowing with The Marionette Quintette.
